It’s time to breakout the lycra, because registrations are now open for the annual Buderim 9 Challenge held in December!

Now in its fourth year, more than 300 avid cyclists will face the challenge of cycling up (and down) nine of Buderim’s toughest hills to raise awareness and funds for Sunshine Coast disability service, the Cerebral Palsy League (CPL) and they are calling on you to join them.

Buderim 9 Ambassadors Paralympian Chris Scott OAM, and Australian junior cycling champ, Dan Fitter are challenging cyclists out there to tackle 76 kilometres and as many of Buderim’s nine hills as they can in three hours!

“Cyclists from across the country and our local cycling clubs will converge on the streets of Buderim on Sunday 20 December and gear themselves up to ‘Get Over It’ for this unique challenge,” Chris Scott said.

“This year the event includes a 100 metre dash category for children living with cerebral palsy and their families – promising to add thrills and smiles to everyone involved!”

“Set yourself the target for your name to appear on the prestigious perpetual trophy – as the Highest Fund Raiser of the 2015 Buderim 9 Challenge!” added Dan Fitter.

“Registration costs only $85 and if you register before December every rider receives the annual Buderim 9 rider’s jersey!”

John Gallagher, Director of Principal Sponsor, Argon Law, said we are a fortunate and unique community in our ability to live, work, educate and play together.

“Argon Law has been an avid supporter of the event for the past four years and the Buderim 9 Challenge is a fabulous example of individuals within our community and local businesses coming together for a common cause and a bit of fun and personal challenge.” Mr Gallaher said.

“The Argon Law Buderim 9 Perpetual Trophy is awarded each year to the Highest Fund Raiser.

“If that is you, your name will be added to the honoured list of participants in the Buderim 9 Challenge.

“Other prizes include awarding children participating and a ‘best dressed’ award.”

Manager of CPL’s Sunshine Coast service, Carmel Smith, said last year’s event saw over 200 riders, nine hill sponsors and many amazing donations of goods, time, sweat and money!

“Last year raised over $20,000 to support children and families on the Sunshine Coast with cerebral palsy,” Ms Smith said.

“We are so grateful for the efforts and generosity of all those who continue to help make this event such an extraordinary success.”

The 2015 event received an early boost of support when students from Chancellor State Secondary College took on a wind trainer challenge earlier this month to raise funds for cause.

Greg Paix is the driving force behind the event with a vested interest in both CPL and cycling on the Coast.  In his spare time, Greg is involved in the planning of Buderim 9 Challenge, holds the role of Vice President Sunshine Coast Cycling Club and most passionately is the biggest fan of his young-adult son, Josh, who has cerebral palsy.

“I live and breathe the Buderim 9 Challenge for all that it offers its participants, supporters and recipients!” Greg said.

“We hope to see even more cyclists and supporters participating again this year. Let’s ‘GET OVER IT!’ together!”
